Press Release
Los Angeles based artist, Stacy Fong is a ceramist, architectural, interior, and landscape designer, whose transition into the world of ceramics has been a natural and fulfilling part of her retirement. Fong creates vessel forms with high attention to detail, elegant lines and unique shapes, often working in extensive series that explore the possibilities of repetition and sequencing. Her rich background in design lends itself to ceramic work that lives at the intersection of functionality and artistry, confidently blending architectural sensibilities with the fluidity and tactile nature of clay. Working primarily with porcelain and obsidian clay bodies, the artist creates elegant, wheel-thrown pieces that showcase her mastery of smooth surfaces, balanced volumes, and subtle contrasts of light and shadow. As her ceramics practice deepens, she has also embraced hand-building techniques, which allows her to further explore nuances of shape and surface design in her vessels.
A passionate lifelong learner, Stacy's love of travel has led her to connect with potters and ceramic masters worldwide, continually expanding her knowledge and creative horizons. Each new encounter with fellow artists informs and inspires her own evolving practice, making ceramics not just a craft, but an immersive, global journey. In the past several years she had studied wood firing and raku techniques in South Korea with the International Ceramics Exchange, created by Miki Shimand and has participated in extensive workshops with acclaimed teachers, Kim JaeBeom, MoonDoBang and Akira Satake to name a few. In 2025 she will be traveling to China and Japan to continue her immersive explorations of ceramics from different cultures with deep rooted histories of ceramic art.
